Since 2012, Agri-ProFocus has been implementing so-called gender in value chain coaching tracks through its Agri-Hub networks. The coaching tracks aim at increasing the capacities of organisations for gender-inclusive value chain development. But also the coaches need some coaching! A training was organised in Arusha to address the skills required for successful coaching.
20 gender coaches came from Africa, Latin America and Indonesia to participate in the coaching training hosted by Agri-ProFocus Tanzania. On the agenda were topics such as the methodology of coaching, arguments for gender mainstreaming in value chain interventions, carrying out gender-sensitive value chain analyses and formulating a Theory of Change.
During the workshop, frequent use was made of the two Agri-ProFocus gender publications: the Challenging Chains to Change book and the updated Gender in Value Chains toolkit.
Take a look at the video report for a quick impression:
The workshop was evaluated as very positive and participants have concrete ideas on how to create a worldwide network of gender in value chain coaches. They plan to continue sharing experiences and to work on improving methodologies and approaches in their respective countries. Branding of the Agri-ProFocus coaching methodology and continuing to professionalise gender in value chain coaches were high on the list of envisaged follow-up actions.
The coaching tracks are now running in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Ethiopia. The Agri-Hubs in RD Congo, Burundi, Benin and Tanzania are soon to follow and it is expected that the programme will venture into Latin America and Indonesia in 2014. These tracks are supported by members including Hivos, ICCO/ Fair & Sustainable and KIT, in different facilitation and knowledge roles.
