A review of Dutch food security policy is in the making. By the end of this year, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs will send a joint food security policy paper to the Dutch Parliament. The Food & Business Knowledge Platform has established an online consultation to ensure that the newest topics and debates on food security are included in the paper.
The Office of the Platform will produce a summary of all contributions and send it to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs. All contributions will remain available online.
We warmly invite you to make a contribution!
In exploring the possibilities for reviewing its food security policy and possibly including emerging topics, the Dutch government is looking in particular at opportunities to link up with recent international debates and developments. Examples might be inequality, green and inclusive growth, climate change, and a fair distribution of global public goods.
Five international targets
Because most of these topics can be linked to the Post-2015 Development Agenda discussions and the UN Secretary General’s Zero Hunger Challenge, this consultation aims to focus on how the objectives and targets discussed internationally could possibly help to guide the Netherlands’ new food security policy. Your contribution is valuable to improve understanding on how these international objectives and targets could be translated into Dutch policy.
The five international targets of the Zero Hunger Challenge for 2030 are:
- Target 1 – 100% access to adequate food all year round
- Target 2 – Zero stunted children less than 2 years
- Target 3 – All food systems are sustainable
- Target 4 – 100% increase in smallholder productivity and income
- Target 5 – Zero loss or waste of food
The targets serve as an entry point for an open online consultation. You do not, however, have to comment on all of them. You can make your contribution to the consultation by selecting the targets that are most relevant to your work. Each contribution should be a maximum of 500 words.
