Around 2000 farmers from the region and 38 exhibitors from Kajiado and other counties joined the livestock Trade Fair on the 26th and 27th of June in Kenya.
The trade fair, organised by Agri-ProFocus Kenya in partnership with Kenya Livestock Producers Association, SNV and the Kajiado County government, took place at the Ol Kejuado Demonstration farm. The annual county trade fair was opened by the Governor of Kajiado county H.E. Dr. David Nkedianye.
The fair comprised of exhibitions and a conference which took place on 26th June 2014 in the afternoon at the Empeut hotel. The conference was presided by SNV who gave the attendants an overview of their work in the country. Still at the conference, participants had a showcase of commercial fodder production by fodder enterprises and a showcase of experiences by women groups organised by SNV.
2000 farmers and 38 exhibitors
The event attracted approximately 2000 farmers from the region and about 38 exhibitors from Kajiado and other counties too. This event was a great opportunity for farmers around Kajiado to showcase their products to the outside market as well as to learn and understand more about livestock value chains. Exhibitions were held of the best cattle breeds from the region, fish species like the catfish, poultry as well as rabbits. As much as this area can be placed amongst the dry regions of the country, there were still exhibitors showing us that crops can do well in the area.
Other than farmers and farm equipment sellers, financial institutions were present, ready to talk to farmers who want to make farming a lifetime income generating activity.
