1. How does the network benefit your organisation?
We got in contact with some interesting professionals and organisations, and some of our staff participated in expert meetings and workshops. We learned one or two things, and came to know and appreciate the work of some of the members, but this has not led to any concrete cooperation. We saw APF as an opportunity to become a partner for Dutch development sector groups, but this is not working out the way we envisioned.

2. Please give an example of a joint action, in which the APF network played a visible role.
We tendered for MFS-II with a number of other APF members, but failed to get through the first round. It was a nice and interesting process, but quite a disappointment that we did not made it. Afterwards we lost regular contact with those members, apparently the need to cooperate was not strong enough.

3. If you were in charge, what should the APF network look like in 5 years’ time?
Agri-ProFocus could act as a kind of coordinating agency for DGIS. The network could coordinate the Dutch development organisations in NLAid, and combine the strength of the different organisations to get good results in DGIS funded projects. Besides that, the organisations would do their own thing, with their own funds.

4. How will your organisation contribute to the APF network in the next 2 years?
As Agro Eco Louis Bolk will continue to work on sustainable agriculture, mainly through organic certification and in the case of cocoa, with the Rainforest Alliance. These are mainly value chain projects in Africa (and not only on export commodities). In those value chains we work with the farmers to improve agriculture practices, quality, and marketing. In all cases some sort of farmer organisation is required. We will look at continuous improvement of existing supply chains. As for our involvement in the network we will have to see if other APF members have an interest to involve us in their work or rather prefer to do things on their own. Our local offices will continue to facilitate fair trade and carbon initiatives.
